Welcome back to my Cabin Row by Row Quilt Along!

Another relatively simple block to put together, 12” Granny Square:

These are so much fun and really easy to put together.

It took me awhile to find the directions for a 12” Granny Square, as most are right around 9.5”  The tutorial for this block is HERE.

One down…seven to go!  I can’t believe I’m almost done with this project, although it still feels like I have a long ways to go!

Last block next week!

Anyone have any guesses?

Have fun~

Row by Row Week #8: Bear Paw

Welcome back to my Cabin Row by Row Quilt Along!

Lots of pieces to this one, but the tutorial is really pretty good!  12” Bear Paw:

My cabin row by row quilt wouldn’t be awesome if I didn’t include this block!

The tutorial for this block is HERE.

I managed to get all eight blocks completed and sewn into a row!!  The quilt is really coming together…good thing as my hubby’s b-day is just around the corner!!

More pics...

Row by Row Week #6: Quilting as you go~

Welcome back to my Cabin Row by Row Quilt Along!

I thought I’d take this week to show how I’m putting the rows together and quilting them.

There are several QAYG tutorials on the internet.  I’ve used this one for years:

I used Monica's tutorial to put together the blocks in my POLAROID QUILT.

It’s fun, easy to understand and a great tutorial~

Strips are cut 1.25" and 1.75" (folded)

Stitching together.

Hand stitch the back.

I wasn't really sure how this would work with such a long seam (97") but I think it works fine.  So glad since there really isn't any turning back!

Next week, block #5…half way there, folks!

Have fun~

Row by Row Week #6: Quilting as you go~

Welcome back to my Cabin Row by Row Quilt Along!  Today's post marks the half way point!  Yippee!

I thought I’d take this week to show how I’m putting the rows together and quilting them.

As stated earlier, I put my 8 12" blocks together in a row.

Next I cut my batting, 15"x WOF, then sewed them together for the backing.

I cut my batting 17" X 100" and layered the three fabrics on my counter to create the sandwich.

Changed my #14 needle to a #18 for the quilting.

Rolled the edges.  Yes, it was a bit bulky at first :)

I kept the quilting simple, basic in the ditch quilting.

There are several QAYG tutorials on the internet.  I’ve used this one for years:

It’s fun, easy to understand and a great tutorial~I'll be trying it out again this week, only putting a couple of really long rows together!  Fingers crossed!!!

Next week, block #5…half way there, folks!

Have fun~

Row by Row Week #5: Maple Leaf

Welcome back to my Cabin Row by Row Quilt Along!

Remember, all comments will get their name into a drawing at the end of this QAL~

Back to easy, peasy.  A 12” Maple Leaf block:

The tutorial for this block is HERE.  This is a super easy way to put together a 12" maple leaf!  In fact, I did up all 8 that I needed for this row!

I also found time this past week to put together my two house/pine tree rows.  I'm super pleased with how they turned out!!

The Sawtooth Star row from week #2 is all quilted!  I'm looking forward to quilting these houses and trees this weekend!

Next week, I plan on sharing pictures of my quilting on this project and my quilt as you go method.  I'm hoping to start putting this together~

In the meantime, have fun~

Row by Row Week #4: Houses

Row by Row Week #4:  Houses

Welcome back to my Cabin Row by Row Quilt Along!  Remember, all commenters will get their name into a drawing at the end of this QAL~

This week I’ll be putting together this House block in a variety of fabrics:

This is a bit more timely and difficult…but I’m loving how it’s coming out!!  Unfortunately, I was not able to find a 12" house block that I liked for this quilt, so I decided to draw my own up on graph paper.

No tutorial, but here's how I put the block together:

I've decided I’ll mix the House and the Pine Tree blocks together for two rows.  In all honesty, I started putting the row of trees together and they were not working for me.  Once I mixed them up with a couple of houses I finished, it looked much more pleasing to the eye!

So, this week I'll be creating two rows of houses and trees for the quilt~

Have fun~

Row by Row Week #3: Pine Tree Block

Welcome back to my Cabin Row by Row Quilt Along!

The second block I’ve chosen to tackle for this project is this 12” Pine Tree Block:

It went together pretty easy…basically sewing the strips together without too much trouble.

The tutorial for this block is HERE.

This week I also had the time to put my Sawtooth Star row together.  I discovered that 9 blocks is just going to be too wide for my bed (what was I thinking??)  So, I've adjusted my quilt pattern to be 8 blocks by 8 blocks.

Remember, all commenters will get their name into a drawing at the end of this QAL~

I’m starting out easy J  The first block for this project is the Sawtooth Star:

This, of course, this goes together quickly and looks great!!

The tutorial for this block is HERE.

One down…eight to go!  I'm hoping to complete all the blocks this week.

I picked up my sweet sewing machine Saturday...all tuned up and ready to go on this project!

Have a fun and safe Independence Day~
