Farmer's Wife: Weeks 1-3

After what seemed like MONTHS of WAITING.....the 1930's Farmer's Wife Quilt Along has begun!

I love how the paper piecing is going together.  So far, the blocks have been relatively simple to put together and I'm pleased with the results.

I love my fabric choices for this quilt and how nicely the paper pieced blocks are coming together.  I decided that I will be putting the this quilt together using a quilt as you go method.

Why?  Because this QAL is going to last almost a year, I don't want to wait to put it all together.  That would be a bit overwhelming to put 99 blocks into a quilt.

The plan will be to quilt an 18" block every few weeks and put the blocks together as I go.

At the last minute, I decided to do another set of block in a bright color scheme.  These blocks will be hand pieced.

I did not buy the fancy templates for this.  I'm using cereal boxes and cardstock to create the little templates.  I used this method when I first began quilting {yes, young and broke!!} and I find the hand piecing not only portable, but relaxing as well.

Quite ambitious, but so far caught up!

I'm off to Haiti early tomorrow morning.  My second trip this year.  Hoping to do good.

Have a fabulous week!

1930's Farmer's Wife Quilt Along

This is one LONG Quilt A long!
If you haven't heard about it online, on flickr and/or face book...
where have you been hiding??

Angie at http://gnomeangel.com/farmers-wife-1930s-sampler-quilt-sew-along/

is organizing and hosting this fabulous quilt along for the book by
Laurie Aaron Hird.
I bought my copy on Amazon and got it in two days!

Then headed over to etsy.com to pick out some yummy new fabric.

Then I recreated a binder to hold all the paper templates and my blocks as I get them completed.

Hello.  There are 99 blocks {6.5"}

At two blocks a week, this is going to take a year.

I'm up for the challenge.  Anyone else??

A Busy Summer

I'm really not sure where the summer has gone!  My last post in May I finished organizing my scraps and making cute little blocks to make several quilts.

Suddenly, we decided to buy our dream house on a lake......once that decision was made, the game plan changed for this summer.  We closed on the house and have spent the last few months packing and unpacking and seriously enjoying our new home.

I did get a few smaller projects completed:

I made this beach mini for Karen over on Flickr....

And I received this awesome beach mini in return!  I love the shark!

Hubby and I took the grand kid to go see JAWS when it was in the
theater this past June....it's his favorite DVD.

It was super awesome seeing the movie again on the big screen!

Some fussy cut socks for a swap.

August is my month for do. good stitches {charity}

I've requested this Disappearing 9 patch block.....I've received about 1/2 of them so far.

I'm thinking this will be an awesome charity quilt.

And....ta da!  Finally my Pack Patch mini is complete and hanging in my foyer!

Here's to a slower Fall and Winter and more time in my new sewing room!

Scrap busting: Pretty in Pink

I have more pink fabric than any other!
I just can't resist a beautiful pink piece of fabric!!

I really have enjoyed organizing & using up my scraps!

I do have a ton more, but at least I have them in some sort of order.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with all of these fabulous blocks
but for now they have to be put on hold.

My #1 niece is getting married in August, so I'll need to create something
special for her and her new hubby
and I have a charity quilt to finish off!
