2012 is going to be a great year!! I've joined this new Quilting Bee organized by Melissa Corry of Happy Quilting! She's an awesome host and has already started a flickr group for the blocks - link on right - Anyhow, this month is Jamie Lee Cooley and she wants to do a wonky house/tree quilt for one of her daughters. These are the two blocks I've come up with for Jamie - who loves them!!

I've learned that being wonky is NOT easy!!! But it is always fun!

2011 has been a very creative year and I'm looking forward to 2012!

Goals for this year.....participate in a Quilting Bee, add new inventory to my Etsy store, plan & create a christmas quilt, a new bed quilt and a graduation quilt for my niece Hannah, continue to participate in flickr groups & swaps and learn to stitch a Cathedral Window!!! I reserve the right to add more to this list as days go by!

Dennis & I decorated a pine tree that is right outside our living room for the deer, birds and other animals instead of having an indoor tree. Dennis put some retro lights ups several weeks and and yesterday we added 80 feet of popcorn/cranberry garland that we spent the past week stringing. Dennis also made some peanut butter/birdseed pinecones to hang. Our first visiter yesterday was a huge pilated woodpecker, but I didn't have the camera ready....then, about 2am, my son saw several deer that were hitting the corn troughs while he was changing the baby's diaper!! I think we are going to see animals for quite awhile, enjoying the goodies!

I created a total of 16 of these containers made from recycling GF International Coffee cans. I used to drink a lot of Suiss Mocha - sugar free! lol These are for my coworkers and I am delivering them today. Most are filled with miscellaneous chocolates, but a few have cashews, for my lo-carb friends.

Cabin Purse

So, we are officially and totally moved into the cabin. We are buckling down for the coming winter...just got the heater last week! Fortunately it's working good and hoping it will keep up warm for the coming winter!

I spent Halloween morning creating this new purse with some Holly Taylor fabric I had stashed away. I've gotten a TON of compliments on it from my coworkers! I do love it! It's got 3 inside pockets with pen slots and one outside pocket. So far, works great. I guess this will be my proto-type for any future purses. Bring on the cool fabric!!

Mom's Birthday

Wow! It's been a long time since my last post! The hubster and I bought a cabin in July and we've been getting it ready for a move! It's time consuming living between two houses! Anyway, my craft room at the new house is coming together nicely....I did manage to make my mother a birthday card in August. I used a little flower that she crocheted for me for my card making. She said I had it on upside down! I guess I'll have to be more careful next time! lol

I swear I think I've had this Dick & Jane fabric for 10 years!! This past winter I put this little quilt together with some reproduction 30's fabrics. I recently got it back from the quilter and finished it off. I really, really like the way it turned out! I'm thinking I may hang this up in my craft room.....originally I was going to sell it, now I'm not so sure!

Father's Day 2011

Well....I waited until the last minute to do up my Father's Day cards - had to spend time searching for some ideas and creating my own little cards. I orignally made 3, one for my husband, my Dad and my FIL.....then realized when I was finished that this is my son, Scott's very first Father's Day! Had to get everything out to make one more very special card! Scott LOVES being a DAD! And tomorrow will be very special to him for many different reasons. Happy Father's Day to Dads everywhere!

Still stitching away on my hexies!! Dang, this is taking forever!! I decided to start on some of the embroidered hexies, so I have about a dozen of them stitched up. I'm thinking I'm never going to make it to a twin size quilt...maybe I'll just be happy with a baby or a toddler quilt!

We have received invites to 5 graduation parties during May and June. How exciting for so many young women!! Finished up the cards this morning for all of them. I tried to use their school colors in each of their cards. Stamp set is Go Graduate from Stampin' Up! Now we are off to our first of many open houses....at least I don't have to cook! lol

Cutting Sherbet Pips

Okay, so I've had this Layer Cake of Sherbet Pips by Aneela Hoey since March - could not bring myself to do anything but fondle it!!

I decided it was time to do something, so I decided on this Sweet Baby Quilt found HERE at the Moda Bakeshop.

I added two shades of pink kona solids to all the beautiful prints found in this line of fabric.

A Musical Rainbow

This is the quilt I was working SO HARD on to finish before I had to have my shoulder surgery in March. I wanted it finished and to the quilter before the surgery so that I could get it back in time for my neice, Celeste's Graduation.

She's graduating this month from Interlochen Arts Academy with a voice major - she's been accepted to all kinds of high class colleges to continue her education, but decided to stay close to home and attend Central Michigan University (my alma mater!! yeah!)

I finished the binding and label up this past week - whew - I was cutting it short on this one!! Just glad I'm done! I'm not fond of the colors, but the print is multi-colored musical notes and staffs, so I based the other on that. Besides, Celeste LOVES bright, vibrant colors! She will love it!

Finally got this one back from the quilter!! Took me a couple of weeks to get to binding and finishing this one up. Boy, am I happy with it! It's so bright, fun and cheery!!! I love this quilt!

Vignette Hexagon Quilt - Chapter 2

Just checking in to say I'm still working on the hexagons for this quilt. I hexed up a ton while traveling and relaxing in Florida. This is an awesome project for on the go or just in front of the tv (got a fair share hexed up during the Royal Wedding!!) I even got a few flowers put together! I still need to stitch up the embroidered hexies. Those will be sweet for this quilt!

Sewn Spaces Swap

Whew! It's a finally a beautiful sunny Easter Day here in Northern Michigan! Our trip to Florida was fabulous, but I'm glad to be back home. I've been really busy running around a lot, but I managed to finish my project for ???? at the Sewn Spaces Swap on flickr - very cool & talented people are involved in this swap. You can check it out HERE. I cannot wait to find out what my partner made me!! Anyhow, my partner's machine is larger than mine, therefore this cover looks a bit big! It should fit her machine perfectly! She loves 1930's fabrics so I made a dresdon plate for the cover and also made a little pin cushion out of the scraps. I'm going to send this off to her by the end of the week.....she doesn't live too far from me so I don't want her to get it to early!

It's April 3rd and it's snowing here....again...in Northern Michigan. So glad I'm flying out to Florida on Tuesday morning to visit my parents. Hoping the snow doesn't follow me.

The package of my new fabric should be waiting for me when I return home!! More cutting and more hexagons!! In the meantime, my vacation kit of hexies is ready to go in my travel bag. Hoping to get a ton of them done during the trip!

APP Mug Rug Swap

My first Mug Rug Swap with Aunt Pitty Pat's! When I originally signed up, I thought the package was due in May....what was I thinking?? This was an Easter Mug Rug Swap! Good thing APP reminded me that it's due in March! I had a really, really hard time finding a coffee mug. I couldn't find anything related to easter! Finally I found the beautiful flower mug that reminds me of Spring! It'll have to do! I created the Mug Rug out of 30's reproduction fabric and made hexigons. So quick and easy they are! I also whipped up a little, mini bag out of the same fabric. The mug and the chocolate bunny fit there perfectly!! Can't wait to see what my partner is sending to me!!

Layer Cake Quilt Along - First Four

Moose on the Porch's Layer Cake Quilt Along. I'm getting a late start, so I am a bit behind with the blocks. So far, I have the first four blocks completed. I have the rest of those blocks that have been posted all cut up and in baggies so I just need to get those put together. I'm using 'Love is in the Air' Layer Quilt, but without the greens. I bought some brown crackle from Moda and another pink print so I don't have to use the greens in this quilt.

Finished my swap quilt for My Favorite Little Quilt Swap on Flickr. Link to the swap and all the photos HERE. Still using my leftovers from another project, I used scraps from Moda's Happy Charm pack to complete this miniature pinwheel quilt. On a whim, I decided to add the prairie points for the border, but realized that the quilt was just too small, so I added another strip of white to make it bigger. I like the way it turned out....a bit different. Any hooooo....holiday over, back to work today!! Enjoy!

Wow. Less than a week before Christmas! I'm not exactly sure when this year flew by me! Of course, this is a time a reflecting on the past year and somehow coming up with a plan for the new year.

For sure, I know that I won't be stamping as much as in the past. My first love has been quilting....thought I did all that I could there, but now I'm inspired by lots of new fabrics, patterns and designs. I think I may work on stuff like that and post here. My intention of this blog was for my card making, but I am going to venture out more over the coming year. Of course, I can't stay away from my stamps! LOL I'll still be posting a card or two here!

These are the jars of Special Oatmeal Cookies my husband and I put together as gifts for my co-workers. We put togethr a dozen! Amy, who sits next to me, already whipped them together for her family! They loved them, now she's beggin' for more! I'm hoping all will take the time to bake these up with their kids and/or grandkids and enjoy them! Amy says they rock! lol

Today's Paper Sundaes Challenge was as follows: With the holidays quickly approaching, we would like you to 'Gift It'! It can be an extra special, over-the-top card, a project, or present. Maybe it could be gift packaging, a tag or a perhaps hand-made gift. Well, I'm not nearly as ready for the holidays as I thought I was when I returned from our little Thanksgiving Vacation in North Carolina!

Soooooo.....today I quickly finished up my Christmas cards, addressed all the envelopes and posted them, gathered and packaged the 4 little gifts I'll be leaving for a co-worker for our Secret Santa exchange, AND got some stuff together for my OTHER Secret Santa girl at Splitcoast Stampers: This set of 4 snowman notecards with a matching holder to hold the cards and the envelopes. Whew! I still have a ton of stuff to get done before hitting the bed tonight!!

Mini Stationery/Card Holder Instructions:
The folder is 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper, layed out in landscape (wider side to side). It is scored vertically at 5 1/2" and horizontally at 2". There is a small notch cut out where the folds meet to decrease the bulkiness of the fold. I sealed the edges of the pockets with Tacky Tape and tied it closed with ribbon. Actually, the cards and envelopes will fit behind the ribbon on the inside of the holder.

This week's theme at Stamptacular Sunday was 'A time for giving' and your project had to be something other than a card! I had a few of these clear pails that I picked a awhile back, so I thought I'd decorate one up for a Secret Santa exchange that I am in next month. I used Festive Favorites stamps and DP from Stampin Up. I did up a little matching card to reveal who I am when I finally give the gift. Of course, the pail will be filled with some yummy chocolate goodies!! LOL

Wow~it's not often when I can combine a couple of challenges into one card, but this morning I was successfull in including 3 challenges! Stamptacular Sunday's challenge was to 'Layer it On' Use 5 or more layers on your card. Yesterday, I saved Sweet Stop Saturdays sketch because it looked like it would be a fun one......so when I read SS's challenge I thought the sketch would be perfect! Also, Paper Sundaes challenge was to use something from your stash! It worked! I made this awesome Halloween card using A Haunting Halloween from Stampin' Up! I glittered the witch's hat and cape with some lime green glitter(my stash!)~gives it a little sparkle. Generally, I don't make cards quite so elaborate!! But, it was kinda fun!

Well, I didn't do any masking, but I did use more than one image on the card. I used Stampin' Up's 'Espress Yourself' with some girly, pastel colors to make a thank you card, which I don't seem to have enough of lately!!

On our way to Traverse City to take the Schooner ride into Lake Michigan. It's supposed to be a beautiful day for a boat ride!

My favorite type of challenge: A Sketch Challenge!~ The only problem today at Stamptacular Sunday Challenge was that there was no sketch posted! LOL I created my card using the beautiful samples that were posted by the design team. After my card was finished, I checked and a sketch was posted! I got pretty close to what the sketch was!

Wonderful theme for this week's Stamptacular Sunday Challenge! "Cute as a Bug" was the theme. I used a new stamp set from CC Designs, which, in fact, I actually won from Stamptacular Sunday last fall! Perfect! I used some lady bug DP and pink and yellow cardstock. The baby's diaper and hat are glossed up to shine and the paper has some glitter in it. Not sure if you can tell from the pic! Another cool challenge!

ONE FOR THE BOYS! Is this week's challenge at Cupcake Craft Challenges~so, since I hadn't done up my Father's Day cards yet (ma bad!) I thought it was time to do that! This challenge fit perfectly! I used not quite navy, kraft and ivory naturals for the paper. The stamp is a retired stamp from Stampin' Up! I embossed some of the paper with the swirls folder in my Cuttlebug. Quite a simple card.

Another rainy, dreary morning here on the island...what better way to spend it than in my craft room! Today's Stamptacular Sunday's challenge was to create a wedding or an anniversary card. Since I have no weddings to attend in the near future, I thought I'd get a jump on my anniversary! I used Something more to love set from Stampin' Up. Since I'm not a very big 'flower' fan, I chose an image that has a flower on it. Got this image in a House Mouse image swap last year on SCS. Wish I had some of these adorable bunny images myself!

Wow~It's been awhile since I've had a chance to do this challenge, one of my all time favorites! Sunday mornings are usually the only time I have each week for creating and it seems like we've been busy every weekend! I'm spending all day in my craft room today (since it is cold, wet and dreary outside and I'll be visiting the grandkids in NY next weekend)! SS's challenge this week was 'Sew Special' - use some type of sewing on your card. I've stitched the DP on this card with my sewing machine~hoping the paper didn't dull my needle too much! I used brown and blue, one of my favorite color combos.

Well, I've been MIA for the past several months!! Life, work & family have all been very busy and it was so hard to find time for crafting! Today is rainy and blistery, so I've had a chance to get caught up on things I've missed for the past several months, clean up my craft area and get stamping!! This card is from Monday's Cupcake Challenge: Create a RED & WHITE card. I ended up throwing a bit of green and brown into the card as needed. Hoping I'm back on the craft boat again!

Rosie D's Challenge

Rosie's in need of a new Design Team member and asked followers to make a New Year's card and a piece of altered art. I said, what the heck, I'll give it a shot~I created the new year's card with the 'Cheers to You' set from Stampin' Up. Used some embossing folders and markers and bright, cheery new year's colors! The altered item I've started is a CD case desk calendar. NOT MY ORIGINAL IDEA! I saw some made up in the gallery over at Splitcoast Stampers. I managed to get January and February completed, before we take off for some after holiday shopping, a movie and some chinese food. I'll get the rest of the months finished up this week and post next week.

The challenge this week at The Pink Elephant was a sketch challenge. I wanted to do up a rubber ducky baby card and the sketch really fit what I had in mind. A friend at work is expecting her first child and I've already made/bought a ton of gifts with the rubber ducky theme, so I needed a card to go along with it. I made a little tag out of the scrap paper that I had leftover. The stamp on the card is from Whipper Snapper.

This week's Featured Stamper over at Splitcoast Stampers is Michele, aka: Mitchyglitchygoomy! What a name! And what an awesome gallery she has! It was difficult to choose which card to case! This stamp is another retired stamp from Stamping Up. It came from the 'Great Greetings' set. I really like the simple red, white, black color scheme. It's been snowing here in Northern Michigan for about a week straight now! My mind has been in the snow bank! LOL

Sunday is most definately my favorite day of the week. First of, no work! Second, my dear husband makes me breakfast every Sunday morning...and lastly, I have uninterupted hours of card making in my craft room! Today is no exception! I created this card for the new Fab'n' Funky Challenge. I used Funky Fairie's Paper for the background and added some stamped snowflakes onto the paper. The image is from a retired Stampin' Up set called 'Snow Angels'. This week's challenge was a sketch. This week's Cat's PJ's challenge was a color challenge ~ one of my favorite color combinations!! Light pink, Kraft & vanilla! I used the ice skater Poochie from the Poochie Christmas set. A simple layout with some embossed paper and punch cut out snowflakes.

It's sponsored by the ladies at Funky Fairy papers ~ an awesome site to purchase fabululous papers to load onto your computer and print up at home!! All of the papers I used in this card was from a set of papers that was offered for FREE!! I've got a link to their site, scroll down and find it! Anyway, this first challenge was a sketch challenge. Pretty detailed too! I try to keep my cards pretty simple, so it's not at elaborate as the DT's samples. The papers are awesome! Stamps are from The Cat's Pajama's.

Another great challenge from those talented ladies at Stamptacular Sunday Challenge! This week's theme was 'Weave it'. We needed to use weaving of some sort on our card. I messed around with some paper weaving....you know, the stuff you learned in the 4th grade when making valentines! Just couldn't get it right!! Settled on just weaving some ribbon through the paper and calling it good! Used this Fluffles image I received in a recent swap at Splitcoast Stampers.

This week's theme was 'Punch Happy'! Use punches to create a card. I just won this new baby stamp set from the Stamptacular Sunday's challenge a few weeks ago. As I was putting the stamp set together, I came up with the idea for this card. I used three different punches on the card and some beautiful designer paper. Another baby girl card ready to go!

House Mouse #56

Now this was a difficult challenge!! The Design Team received a card kit to create this week's card. We were to try to replicate what was in the kit and make our own card. I loved the spotted paper that was in the kit, but I didn't have anything close to it. Fortunately, I did have the image, so I created this card based on what I could see in the picture. Whew! Tough challenge!!

First of all~I won last week's Stamptacular Sunday Challenge!! Wow! I was so excited when I logged on to see what today's challenge was going to be and saw that I won! A stamp set from CC Designs at All that Scraps!! So, this week's challenge was 'Turkey Time'. I had this Riley image in mind as soon as I read the challenge. This was a quick to whip up card. I love the muted, fall colors.

I found a new challenge blog yesterday! It's called Crazy for Challenges! Of course, it fits my personality beautifully!! This week's challenge was to make an acetate card or use acetate on your card. I've had the acetate sheets for about two years, and have never opened them! So, this forced me to use it! My apologies for the blurry picture! It's really hard to take a pic of this because of the shininess of the acetate. I took several, then just gave up! I am please with the card and it was fun using the acetate.
