Bright Polaroid Blocks

I’m so excited to be hosting another month for My Very Own Blanket~ for the believe @ do.good stitches group on flickr.

We will be fussy cutting and making Polaroid blocks this month!  Yeah!

I have revised the tutorial for these blocks, it is based on THIS original tutorial at capital quilter.

The basics:

-fussy cut 4 2.5” squares with interesting fabrics
-use quality white fabric to create the polaroids
-strips are 1.25" for 3 sides and top, 1.75" for bottom
-trim to 3 x 3.5”
-use bright, monochromatic or solid fabric 2” strips to surround the Polaroid
-trim to  5.5 x 6"
-sew the four blocks together: block size:  10.5 x 11.5"
-repeat

Try to use fun, kids prints for the ‘photos’ and brights for the surround.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Fussy cut (4) 2.5” squares from some fun fabric.

Cut a strip of white 1.25” wide and 1.75” wide.

Sew the skinnier strip to each side of your square.

Press toward the white.

Trim with ruler.

Sew another skinny strip to the top of your square and press to the white.

Sew the wider strip to the bottom of your square and press to the white.

Create 4 different polaroids.

Trim these to 3" x 3.5"

Cut 2” strips of a bright, monochromatic or solid color.

Add to your Polaroid as you would a log cabin block and press to the strip.

Trim blocks to 5.5 x 6”.

Sew four together – Voila! Block is 10.5 x 11.5”

Now do it all one more time!!
